A Traditional Unagi Rice Restaurant with A Nostalgic, Home-like Atmosphere
The main branch, with its charming, old-fashioned atmosphere reminiscent of a traditional Japanese house, has limited seating. It’s a good idea to check availability before heading there. I made a reservation in advance this time, though reservations aren’t needed for solo diners.
I met a friendly male staff member at the counter who spoke English. I ordered grilled eel skewers and the Unagi-Ju Special (eel on rice). My first meal was served in 10 minutes. The eel was incredibly tender, rich, and flavorful.
I also ordered liver soup, which made for a luxurious lunch experience. For the skewers, we tried three types: eel head, fin, and harami (belly). All three were delicious. The skewer set includes a drink, so I chose a Coca-Cola.
The pickles were a mix of miso-marinated daikon, cucumber, and plum-flavored ones, which I highly recommend. They pair perfectly as snacks with alcohol!
