MIMIMARU Expands Family Travel Support Beyond the Stay

Fifteen Tokyo locations join forces to offer travellers a reassuring place to turn when they need help

Starting in July 2026, 15 MIMARU locations across Tokyo, in and around popular areas such as Asakusa, Ginza and Shinjuku, began working together on a new initiative. Guests staying at any MIMARU in Tokyo can now stop by the nearest MIMARU and speak with staff whenever they encounter a problem while exploring the city.

By making support available at MIMARU locations beyond the one where guests are staying, the initiative offers families the reassurance of knowing that there is always somewhere nearby they can turn to for help.

Peace of Mind Beyond the Stay

Unexpected difficulties can arise during any family trip: losing your way, a child suddenly needing the restroom, a phone running out of battery and leaving you unable to contact others, or a sudden downpour bringing your plans to a halt. For families visiting Japan for the first time in particular, even a small problem can quickly become a major source of anxiety.

To help families feel more at ease throughout their time in Tokyo, MIMARU has launched this initiative connecting 15 locations across the city. Guests can stop by a nearby MIMARU in areas such as Asakusa, Ginza, Shinjuku and Ueno and ask the staff for assistance.

International guests account for approximately 90% of those staying at MIMARU, and around 80% are families. Our team includes staff from 39 countries and regions, many of whom have firsthand experience of living and travelling in different cultural and linguistic environments. The difficulties and concerns identified through daily conversations with travellers, together with the personal experiences of our staff, inspired this new initiative.

Nearby MIMARU Support for Those “Small Problems” While Exploring Tokyo

Guests staying at a MIMARU in Tokyo can stop by the nearest MIMARU while sightseeing and receive the following assistance free of charge:

  • Information and directions: Help finding the way to a destination, as well as recommendations for restaurants and places to visit nearby
  • Support for urgent needs: A place to shelter during sudden changes in the weather or access to a restroom when urgently needed
  • Practical assistance: Smartphone charging through the loan of chargers or access to electrical outlets, as well as free Wi-Fi
  • Multilingual communication: Assistance in English and, where possible, other languages spoken by our team

During the trial period, requests for directions were the most common, followed by requests to use a restroom or borrow an umbrella.

Translation apps, generative AI and other digital tools have made it easier than ever to find support while travelling. However, there are still many moments when speaking directly with another person provides a sense of reassurance that technology alone cannot offer.

MIMARU values the kind of thoughtful, personal support that only people can provide. Through this initiative, we hope to give families peace of mind by ensuring that there is always somewhere nearby they can turn when they need help.

Personal Support That Reflects What MIMARU Stands For

This initiative is made possible by our team members from around the world. Drawing on their own experiences of living in Japan, they are able to understand the feelings and concerns of international travellers.

Because many of our staff have experienced living in unfamiliar cultural and linguistic environments themselves, they can relate to the small worries and difficulties that may arise during a journey and provide support tailored to each guest.

MIMARU will continue to go beyond providing spacious rooms and practical amenities. By connecting our 15 Tokyo locations and offering thoughtful support from our staff, we aim to create an environment in which families visiting Japan can explore the country with greater confidence and peace of mind.
