Tabi-bento – Kyoto 2nd (Eki-ben shop)
This is a shop located inside the Shinkansen ticket gate that sells boxed lunches. Enjoying a bento (lunch box) on the train while heading to your destination is also one of the delights of riding Japan’s Shinkansen.
It is located just inside the Shinkansen ticket gate of Ueno Station. There are many kinds of bento, and the selection is the same as the bento shop outside the ticket gate, so if you forget to buy your bento outside the ticket gate, you can still buy it here. It is a very small store, but there was a long line when we visited here around noon on weekdays. We bought 2 Japanese lunch boxes and a sandwich lunch box. There is no place to eat, such as a table, because it is supposed to be eaten in the Shinkansen. All three tasted delicious, especially the sandwich bento; the bread was very soft, and the ingredients inside were fresh and delicious. Also, there is a large selection of local dishes, so even if you have likes and dislikes, you can eat what you want to eat.
