Experience Japan’s Spirit Through Tradition! Explore Asakusa in a Kimono.

The spirit of Japan is tangible in Asakusa and its many popular sightseeing spots.
What better way to spend the day than venturing around locations such as Senso-ji and Kaminarimon in a kimono (formal Japanese garments) or yukata (more casual than a kimono)?
The MIMARU staff are here to tell you about the fun they had during their Kimono in Asakusa experience.

Full-day rentals for beautiful kimonos and yukatas are available! They also offer English support!

MIMARU Staff’s Comments

“It was my first time wearing Japanese clothes and I thought it was going to be more difficult than it was.
Choosing what to wear was a lot of fun and putting it on only took a short time, so it ended up being easy to take part in the experience.

In order to allow the kimono to sit properly and beautifully without getting displaced, the staff wrapped towels around us to create a straighter body shape.

It was incredibly interesting to see cultural differences through clothes, as the kimono differs from the traditional clothing in my country, which has a tighter design that shows the body line.

I was shocked because even though we went for the kimono experience on an extremely hot day,
I did not really feel the heat and it wasn’t as uncomfortable as I thought it would be.
Even the geta (traditional sandals) were not as hard to walk in as I expected.

It made me want to take pictures of myself and it became a memory that I will cherish my whole life.

Asakusa is an area with multiple sightseeing spots located right around the station, making it perfect to take a stroll while admiring the sights.

There are always a lot of people walking around in kimonos and yukatas regardless of nationality.

Try on a kimono if you have the chance! It’s a unique experience to Japan, and the MIMARU staff recommend it.”

Three Ways to Enjoy the Kimono Experience in Asakusa

① Coordinate colors and patterns

We couldn’t help but exclaim in wonder at the beauty and variety of kimonos in the rental shop.
One of the enjoyments of this experience comes from being able to choose colors and patterns, then coordinate them with geta, obi (the wide belt of the kimono), and other accessories.
The staff gave us advice, and we were able to complete our summer kimono and yukata looks as we liked!
The main differences between yukata and kimono lie in when they are worn, how they are worn, and the materials used to make them.
Once you choose your kimono and accessories, the professional staff will dress you in an instant. They even do your hair and makeup, and you will find yourself beautifully presented in the kimono in just 30-40 minutes!

② Take plenty of commemorative photos

We both ended up looking as cute as we had hoped and were very happy with our first kimono looks!
The feeling of becoming someone different from our everyday selves was exciting!
We ended up taking a lot of wonderful pictures all around the area.
We’re looking forward to showing everyone the results later, too.

③ Take a stroll around Asakusa

A stroll through the streets of Asakusa makes you feel like you walked into the past as the atmosphere overflows with the tradition and spirit of Japan--it’s natural with all the shrines and temples, including Senso-ji, and the many old-fashioned shops that line the streets.
The streets look different when you walk around in a kimono.
And it may have been our imagination, but it felt like we sometimes got a smile from the people passing by.

Bonus: A Fireworks Festival in a Kimono

Fireworks are one of Japan’s most anticipated seasonal highlights, where family and friends come together to watch beautiful fireworks bloom in the night sky.
Many people enjoy wearing yukatas to these fireworks displays and other festivals.
At MIMARU Tokyo Asakusa Station, guests and staff gathered on the rooftop terrace to enjoy the July Sumidagawa Fireworks Festival to the fullest.
Guests wore yukata to watch the night sky light up, fully immersing themselves in Japanese summer.

We offer special benefits exclusively for MIMARU guests.
