Akaneya Kyoto Tower Sando
A painting workshop produced by a Kiyomizu-yaki pottery studio with over 350 years of history in Kyoto. You can paint on teacups, mugs, fans, ceramic bells, and glassware, or take part in a bracelet-making session using colorful natural stones.
This workshop is located on the second floor of the Kyoto Tower Building (Kyoto Tower Sand), right in front of Kyoto Station and only 10 minutes from MIMARU Kyoto STATION.
At Akaneya, you can paint tea cups, mugs, glass, folding fans, and fox masks - famous symbols of Kyoto. This time, we tried to paint fox masks.
There are 2 types of masks that you can choose: half-sized (covering up to the nose) and full-sized (covering up to the chin). The staff provides watercolors, brushes, and sample patterns for your reference. It usually takes about an hour to finish the work, and we finally made it after an hour and a half. You can purchase souvenirs from the shop, create your own pieces, and bring them home as a one-of-a-kind souvenir. The shop staff is also very friendly.
It is better to make a reservation in advance, but you can walk in if the shop is not crowded. This is one of the activities we would like to recommend to guests on a rainy day or to those wanting to have good use of their 1-2 hour free time before their train.
