Edo-style calligraphy, said to bring good fortune and prosperity, is hand-painted onto lanterns, wooden plaques, and signs. In addition to lettering, family crests can also be included, making these items popular as celebratory gifts or souvenirs for overseas visitors.

Write Your Own Japanese Calligraphy to Creating an Original Eco-Bag

The workshop event, held at Ryogoku Edo NOREN, offered participants the chance to design and construct their own ecobags using traditional Japanese writing techniques. The process was surprisingly straightforward, thanks to the clear guidance and support provided by the workshop staff. Even for those unfamiliar with Japanese calligraphy, the instructions were easy to follow.

Beyond the ecobag crafting experience, the workshop also showcased a variety of other Japanese-inspired items. Visitors could purchase keychain and sumo dolls, and even participate in lantern-making activities at the store. The friendly and welcoming atmosphere made it a delightful experience for both locals and international guests.

Overall, my participation in the eco-bag workshop was a rewarding and memorable experience. I would highly recommend this workshop to anyone interested in exploring Japanese culture and crafts.
