Kyoto Seishu Netsuke Art Museum
This is Japan’s first museum dedicated to netsuke. Netuke are small, intricately carved ornamental toggles that originated in Japan during the Edo period. They were originally used to secure small containers (inrō) to the sash (obi) of a kimono. Made from various materials such as ivory, wood, and metal, netuke often feature detailed depictions of animals, mythological figures, or everyday scenes. You can learn about their history and evolution up to the present day.
