Visit This Uji Tea Shop Once Served as the Shogun’s Tea Master
This is a Uji tea specialty store located about 8 minutes walk from Uji Station, very close to Byodo-in Temple. Founded in the Tensho era, it is a long-established store with a history and tradition as the official tea master of the Shogun family. It has a spacious space that can accommodate large groups, and there are English and German-speaking staff (advance reservation/contact required). It is perfect for those who are new to tea ceremony experience and looking for a short-time and affordable tea experience or a place to spend time when going to Byodo-in Temple and Uji. You will be taught from how to make matcha to how to make tea. Those who are experiencing the tea ceremony will be guided to the back of the first floor, and there is also a shop and a sweet shop. The staff are bright and very polite.
