Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art
This is a modern art museum in Sapporo that displays a diverse collection from various perspectives. It also frequently hosts special exhibitions featuring unique and diverse works from both Japan and abroad.
The museum is small yet personal artworks. There’s an area to encourage touching some of the art. On the top floor, there is floor to ceiling windows with rows of seating facing the autumn colors. I sat there for a few hours and felt like it was special
What Could Be Better
I wish I knew more Japanese so I could find more hidden gems. I like hiking and unfortunately didn’t feel like I understood how to make hiking work. The other thing is with ryokans for solo travelers is difficult
Things good to know in advance
Pick 1-2 things to do a day, then use Apple Maps to find restaurants nearby via Tabelog (review site by Japanese translated into English)
Conveniently located one train ride away from Ginza, Tsukiji and Ueno without any transfers. Within walking distance of Nihonbashi, a center of Japanese culture, and Ningyocho, a traditional downtown area.
Only a 4-minute walk to Tokyo City Air Terminal (T-CAT) which features direct buses to major airports. Head to Tokyo Skytree® or Shibuya straight from Suitengumae Station.
