At KIMONO TEA CEREMONY MAIKOYA at Gion Kiyomizu, you can immerse yourself in authentic Japanese culture while feeling the atmosphere of history. They offer a variety of experiences, including kimono dressing and tea ceremony sessions in a Kyoto townhouse registered as an Important Cultural Property, as well as guided tours with Gion geishas.
This is one of a few tea ceremonies in Kyoto that can be explained to guests 100% in English. Reservations are required. Guests can choose to join the ceremony wearing a kimono or not (the price is different). If you booked the kimono plan, you will be guided to the dressing room across the road. You will be guided to choose a kimono and get dressed with the staff's support. Ladies can also have a simple hair arrangement that suits the kimono. It’s actually designed for tourists, but still worth a try. After the ceremony, guests have a short free time to take pictures in their small Japanese garden. Kids under 7 are not allowed to join.
