Cat Temple" is located along the lush greenery of the Takano River on the way from Kyoto City to Ohara. Although it is called a temple, it is actually a temple-themed park with cats as the main focus. Operated by the Kaye family, who are artisans specializing in painting Buddhist images and ceiling murals for shrines and temples, it now features a variety of cat-themed goods, a café, and a gallery. In the shop, handmade items from about 130 artists are sold on consignment. You can find unique cat art and adorable cat merchandise that can only be found here, as well as heartfelt creations! You can also purchase cat-themed goshuin (temple stamps) and amulets. While there is usually one head priest in a traditional temple, here, several cats take turns in their roles.
